Sue Genest graduated from the University of Calgary with a BA (1st Class Honours) and an MSc in Counselling Psychology. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Canadian Certified Counsellor and has been practicing since 2006, and as a counsellor, in varying capacities, since 1993. She has been part of the EMDR community and involved in trainings for 19 years. She has over 33 years of experience working in the mental health field and healthcare as a crisis and career counsellor, disability care provider, health educator, researcher in the area of mental health, and University and Private instructor.

Currently, Sue teaches EMDR Basic and Advanced trainings as well as providing EMDR Consultation. She works in private practice with womyn, men, adults, adolescents, children, and couples. She works with individuals and groups in the areas of trauma (e.g. childhood trauma, abuse, car accidents) PTSD, grief, anxiety, stress, depression, personal and professional development, self esteem, and addictions.

Her work is founded on the principles of non-violence, mindfulness, organicity, wholeness and unity. She incorporates Hakomi, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), Imagery, Indigenous teachings (with Cree, Ojibway, Dakota, Peruvian, and Mexican Elders), Eastern Teachings, and many other modalities into her work.

Sue is a certified EMDR therapist, EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and facilitates and teaches EMDR trainings. She teaches Advanced EMDR trainings that allow therapists to advance their skills, develop on a personal level, and gain a greater understanding of working with complex trauma.

Over the years, Sue has won numerous awards for her academic work and taught several classes (counselling skills, lifespan development, mind/body/spirit medicine, qualitative research and sexuality) at the University of Calgary. She has published articles and done presentations in the areas of holistic healing, pediatrics, qualitative research, sexuality and career counselling.
